A memoir is about handing over your life to someone and saying, this is what I went through, this is who I am, and maybe you can learn something from it. Time Flies, but Memories Stay is such a book written by V. Subramanian. It holds the author's experiences working in a bank plus the lessons he learned from different people and situations. The cover page feels monotonous, but the content proves to be worth reading.
The book is divided into four parts: Emotions, Humour, Success, and Critical Issues Affecting Bankers. In the first part, the author shares his personal life episodes, which mold him into more considerate towards other people's problems and make him a better version of himself.
As the name suggests humor, the second part makes the readers laugh out loud. We all have incidents that we never forget and always laugh when we recall them—the author's life is filled with those events. For a day, he becomes the Bill Gates, while in other, he plays a TTE.
In the third part, Success tells us about the author's banking achievement—the awards he and his branch receive by showing utmost dedication. As a leader, V. Subramanian faces a lot of challenges and makes some tough calls. He works in different cities, including rural and urban, at other departments, making his efforts recognizable.
In 2016, he received The Champion of Champions Trophy from the bank's MD and CEO. In the last part, the author casts a spotlight on the dilemmas faced by bank employees. Many staffers lost their job or retirement benefits due to the unfair arrangement of the system.
The writing is lucid, but grammatical errors disrupt the course of reading. The author succeeded in showing the obstacles encountered by bank employees. I like the way the banking terminologies are explained in a mild tone. The chapters were penned in an unmethodical style. One can connect with the stories he experiences in his life. If you're looking for some fast-paced, fun read books, then give it a try to this one.
