Faith and the Beloved is the second book written by Kochery C Shibu. The plot is based on criminal activities that intervene with a Syrian Christian family. It involves a series of murders, sexual fantasies, and deceptions.
The protagonist is a teenage girl Alice who ran away after an explosion that killed three people. Her mother, Naithy Cherokil, is a successful businesswoman. She was wedded to a Muslim named Jiza. He was killed in the terrorist attack, and after a year, Naithy married Tony D'Souza, a Canadian. Alice disliked him from starting and decides to stay in a hostel. They have been married for ten years, but Naithy didn't find out anything alarming about Tony. Things took a turn when one day Naithy went into a coma, and Tony was found dead.
Alice was nowhere to be found, and the people from the underworld is looking for her. The police also tried to connect the dots but unable to see a pattern for a long time. While Alice took everything in her hands, she drives some lights on the situation to help the cops. Her friends were proved helpful and loyal. A police officer Prakash focused on two brothers, and their story played a significant role and gives an engaging twist. The book deals with sleeper cells, mobs, gang wars, corruption, deceits, and the people caught between all these.
Just like Kochery C Shibu's debut book, Men and Dreams in the Dhauladhar, this book is also filled with parallel stories and a little bit of hydroelectricity project. If you read the first book, you know what I am talking about. The language is lucid, but there are a few typo errors.
What I like about this book; it is fast-paced and short. This one is focused on likable narratives instead of dull-moving fantasies, but still, once in a while, this story made me irritated and angry with the portrayal of rape in the form of sexual desire.

The author tried to portray a strong and resourceful female character but requires more improvement in that aspect. The author worked on the suggestions that I gave in the first book, a plus point. I recommend this fast-paced book to newbies.
