My Review -
I picked this book to get out of a reading slump. I just needed something light-hearted to read, and this book gave me that, but it also made me explore the confusion one person had in the relationship. This is the first time I read Nikita Singh's book, and the title is quite intriguing.
The story revolves around Nidhi and Abhay. They are madly in love and have been together for five years. One day, Nidhi decides to walk away from Abhay without giving him any explanation, that too on their engagement day. They both were devastated and crushed. Nidhi decides to pen letters to understand why their relationship did not work. Although she never sent it to him, the letters were from January to December.
In between family and internal chaos, they both share some time together, date different people, and realize how much they love each other. But it has been months since they broke up and their family hate each other, they were not big fans of each other when Nidhi and Abhay were together. All the caste drama and disappointments were there.
Abhay was managing it all very well, while for Nidhi, things were pretty bad. One can see the struggle of overthinking and not ignoring or forgetting what someone said about her. Besides, the growing distance, unresolved mistakes, and shutting each other out are the final nail in the coffin.
The story portrays an actual state of ambiguity and deception because this is how it occurs. Seldom do you know that you don't desire something or it is not ample for you, but you cannot give the other person the legitimate logic for the decisions you made?
Nidhi spends a lot of time soul-searching, and she knows it subconsciously but is afraid to say it out loud. With the help of each other, they come to the conclusion that remodels their relationship dynamics.
I like the part where Nidhi stands for herself and takes time. I think there is nothing wrong with that, especially if you feel that the love of your life is the one who caused all the misery without even knowing it.
This fast-paced book is best suited for young romance-loving readers or those who go through a breakup and wonder why they broke up in the first place?
I know it sounds cliché, but I connect with some of the things, and just like Nidhi, I also believe in writing therapy, and we have some identical characteristics.
For me, it's a one-time read, and if you pick this book, remember it will make you remember someone from your past or present, maybe.
