My Review -
Temple Tales is a debut book written by Sudha G. Tilak. It is based on the Indian temples and folklore around it. India is an adobe of many Gods and Goddesses. You'll find shrines dedicated to all the lords, in different names, and stating several pieces of history.
This book does not include all of them, and I don't think it is possible to compile them all in one volume. The author shared about those places which she visited and heard from others. It is an idiosyncratic collection of some famous and obscure sites.
Sudha G. Tilak wrote this book for children, but it is for every age group. The legends will blow your mind and influence you to visit that region and learn more about its antiquity. Although most of the book is dedicated to the temples situated in South India, the readers will enjoy it more.
The language is lucid. The narration is fast-paced, but some of the tales I felt are not entirely correct. Maybe because I heard the different versions of them and was considerably familiar with the subject. But I gave the author the benefit of the doubt because the stories we heard have come from other persons and perspectives. People are telling/re-telling them for a long time, and every time we hear a new version.
The book is a gateway to our rich heritage and a reminder of the majestic music, foods, dances, scriptures, and folklore that are slowly fading. There are so many temples I wanted to visit that includes in the novel. I also found some interesting places which I never heard of, and I put them on my list.
If you're a parent who wants to help understand their child why a particular temple was built or by who or the divine stories they share, give them this book to read. If you're someone like me who is intrigued and fascinated by India's vast history and architectural wonders, pick this book now. I recommend it to everyone.
Good information madam thank you
