Book Review -
The awakening will come in glimpses from within, and your life will never be the same.
Mohan Ranga Rao is a retired businessman who decides to visit the Himalayas, or one can also say made a deal to see, the adobe of Lord Shiva if his problem linked to a land mafia will be solved. And it did resolve after some time. So, with his wife, Mamatha, he arranges the trip to the Himalayas.
First, at reluctant to not go there, the author finds distinct ways to avoid the trip, but in the end, he agrees, and while researching, his interest piqued, not on a spiritual level but to prove his fitness and to have an experience of trekking at 19000 feet.
As the journey commences, the author and his wife meet with various people, have diverse experiences, and have distinct points of view towards religion, making this book interesting and worth reading.
Reading Inner Trek felt like reading journal entries where the author's honesty touched my heart. I laugh at a few anecdotes; some made me think twice about spirituality, while at some points, I understand the significance of the Himalayan trek and the difficulties one has to endure.
The whole journey profoundly impacted the author, clearly seeing this change in his narration. The language is also lucid, and at times, I felt that Mohan Ranga Rao was recounting the story right in front of me.
I had never read a travelogue before, so I had no idea what to expect when I picked this book. But I'm glad that I read it, as it opens possibilities for me to read more from this genre. In addition, this book has a glossary that cites the meaning of Hindi words in English, so native English speakers will not get confused.
Trek to the Himalayas is challenging but not impossible, and the author proved this. He shares every vital detail, and if you're thinking about going on this trek, you should undoubtedly read it. I highly recommend this book.
