Book Review -
Outbreak is the first book in the Dark Days series written by Christopher Cole. Based on the zombie apocalypse, this book will hook you from start to end.
What starts as a typical day for Sonny and his family soon becomes the worst day. The zombie attacks create havoc on the city they live in and soon on the whole country. First, the government started evacuating the civilians, but they also bombarded the buildings and infected people; zombies or not, many lost their lives.
With his parents and neighbor, Brad, and his two daughters, Ashley and Carrie, Sonny started to understand that the world they know will never be the same, and they need to stick together to survive. Along the way, they find different groups of people, some good and some bad.
They had to reach a safe place, and they did after many grotesque encounters with zombies. Still, their happiness was short-lived because they were attacked and forced to run away again, but Sonny, Ashley, and Carrie were accompanied by a few other teenagers this time. With no adult supervision, the shit has become realistic for these poor kids.
They all become grown-ups or behave like one because they have no choice. They were looking for a safe abode from one place to another, but their hope was shattered every time. Sonny, Ashley, and Carrie's bond is something that I'm rooting for to stay the same in the following books; they are like always and forever type of thing.
The story is fast-paced, with many characters; some had to make tough decisions to survive, while some were reckless enough to put everyone at risk. With foul language, violence, and gruesome acts, this book is also about friendship and portrays mortals' demeanor. I'm so eager to read the next installment asap. I recommend this book to adults only.
