The title and the blurb are both misleading.
Before we continue, let me be clear that this book is not a self-help guide to investment or the stock market. Instead, it is about the money - now the title says The Psychology of Money - being a reader, it grabs my attention, and I thought I was going for something exciting and new to read.
Then I read the blurb where Morgan Housel said - "by sharing 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life's most important matters."
Money is something that we all need to fulfill our needs or desires. Some people are great with it, while some are not, so when a person says that you can understand money via psychology, we hear them. Because it is a unique concept. And here, I made a poor choice.
The book is divided into 20 chapters and focuses only on what people did with their money in different eras, like during World War II, the Great Depression, the fall of the Soviet Union, etc. The sections are filled with reports and figures that bored me to death.
Another reason for my not liking the book is that the author focused only on the American stock market. It had nothing to do with international readers; my expectations were way different because of the two words - psychology and money.
Daniel H. Pink said about this book that Morgan Housel wrote about finance with graceful clarity, but I am afraid I have to disagree. The content is challenging to grasp, confusing, and contradicts each other. The only good thing is the name of the chapters and a few quotes here and there.
Also, if you're a beginner-level reader, do not pick this one. But if you're deep into this genre and an American, then maybe you can. I can go for an eternity to point out my disliking about this book, but I already waste enough time reading it, so not anymore.
I disagree with you aakanksha. The book is really easy to read & teaches timeless lessons about money. Few times author used reports & math but it was a neccessary to understand the concepts. So, I would recommend this book.
