First of all, I love Keanu Reeves, and when I saw this title, I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as possible. I didn't even read the synopsis at that time and grabbed it. So, in my head, this book will be my favorite, and I'll enjoy reading it... BUT here's the reality -
The synopsis gives all the details about the significant happening in the story, and I felt that the title is slightly misleading. I was in for a female protagonist to go on a journey and ended up with Keanu Reeves or at least have something that is not cliche. Again BUT - it is full of cliche.
Bethany Lu, an artist in her forties, makes a plan to find and marry Keanu Reeves in ninety days. Why? Because Keanu announced his marriage, Bethany can't accept this reality. She lives in her head and is a master of self-destruction. Dealing with an artistic block, she has nothing more to do instead of making shallow plans.
Her two best friends, Dawn and True, have been with her for almost twenty years. Male protagonist True has feelings for Beth, but he never expresses them all these years and helps Beth to achieve her goal. He is an economics professor, and his characteristics of knowing all about Beth and profiling her all the time aggravated me.
As readers, we know they are best friends, but K.M. Jackson did a little too much with True's character and Beth's inner monologues. Not to mention, they all behave like silly college students. For God's sake, they are over forty but can't act like one.
The story is fast-paced and told from a dual POV, but the characters are one-dimensional. These friends to lovers didn't have the elements to become an epic duo. However, a few road trips and celebrity sightings made the story bearable.
Overall, I'm disappointed. Although you can read this book if you like cringe romance drama. Else, please don't.
