Cara Chugg's debut work, A Journey to Find Her Soul, is a short fictional story about a girl named Lillian Blyly. A daughter of an alcoholic mother and absentee father, her youth was full of tribulations.
But this is not the only thing she is dealing with; many people try to take advantage of her vulnerable state, which leads her to think that each man in her life will love her only if she has something to give back. As a result, many instances and relationships made her realize that she lacks self-esteem.
When everything is going wrong in Lillian's life, then comes the news of her being pregnant and the light she much needed. I resonate with her character very much as once I was in the same depressing, suicidal state, where I wanted liberation but was in a cage created by others and myself.
The self-realization and healing took time, an ongoing process for Lillian and me. I understand her outburst, an urge to find love and meaning in life, and having good and bad days, which sometimes is too much for others, but the reality of individuals like us.
As Cara Chugg said, within all of us lies a piece of Lillian Blyly, and after reading this story, I strongly agree with her. The character is realistic and makes mistakes; she is flawed but not an evil human being. This book portrays how she deals with all the imperfections, heartbreaks, and trauma and eventually discovers her true essence.
I recommend this book to those who want to read something distinctive yet realistic tale.
