Ghosts in the Dark Silence is the sixth book penned by Anita Krishan. Her previous novel, Ghosts of the Silent Hills, was a bestseller and inspired by actual events just like this one.
I am not an avid reader of this genre, but my willingness to push myself out of my comfort zone made me pick this book, and I am so satisfied that I finished reading this novel rapidly.
This book consists of five short stories revolving around different parts of India but is centralized in the author's hometown Shimla. Each tale has malicious spirits; some want revenge, while others try to protect the protagonist. Some are misled, while some are victims of the evildoers.
A backdrop of past life experiences led to a long-forgotten love story, to a dream house of a newlywed, which soon became haunted, to the youngsters playing with things they didn't comprehend, the devotion of a wife to her husband, to the reawakening of a person who helps the troubled humans/souls, these stories touches many aspects of supernatural beings.
The language and narration are likable, but the endings could have been better. Although I can effortlessly get scared, these tales impacted me, and now I hope they will not come to me as nightmares. But if you love the stories that slowly crept into your mind and body, then this book is for you. I recommend it.
