I Seek You by Soumya Doralli follows a story of a ten-year-old, Sadhana living with her tea-estate-owning parents and sets the stage for the story's unfolding. Sadhan befriends Balu, the cook's son, and becomes his tenacious supporter.
The young mind of a child does not comprehend the concept of societal class, which is why when Sadhana's parents or friends attempt to belittle Balu, she staunchly defends him. She courageously challenges their behavior and questions why they are acting unkindly. It shows character, and within a bit, Sadhana and Balu's friendship grows stronger.
The narrative then moves on to Sadhana's college and love life, her loss, and how she contemplates all the events. The book explores the themes of Sadhana's evolution and invites readers to consider the intricacies of human existence.
However, the premise holds promise; the novel must catch up in a few areas, affecting the overall reading experience. The narrative's pacing feels haste; it needs more character development, particularly that of Sadhana, which remains shallow, making it difficult for readers to form a deep emotional bond with the protagonist. This limitation hampers complete immersion in her journey of self-discovery.
Moreover, the writing style employed by Soumya Doralli needs to be more consistent. While specific passages exhibit beautiful prose, vividly capturing the essence of contemporary literature, others succumb to verbosity and detract from the story's fluidity and impact.
If the author had concentrated on a single narrative direction instead of incorporating various elements into the story, certain parts could have transformed into a compelling and impactful narrative.
