I recently finished Durjoy Datta's latest release, World's Best Ex-Girlfriend. It took me back to the days before my book blogging journey when I first read his works. Over time, I've noticed his growth as an author, and it's clear that his writing has matured along with him.
As someone who reads countless books, I know that it's not always easy to remember every story. However, there are those that touch my heart and stay with me, and this one, particularly the ending, is likely to linger for personal reasons.
While I'd love to share more, revealing those details would spoil the story, and as a reviewer, I make it a point not to ruin the experience for other readers.
Now that we're on the same page, let's dive into the book. It's been a while since I last read a romance novel, especially one from an Indian author, and this story was a refreshing change. The characters, Aanchal Madan and Daksh Dey reminded me of my own youthful, reckless decisions in love and life.
Their bond had a certain spark, but they were too immature to understand its weight. Coming from different backgrounds, they inevitably caused each other immense pain. Over time, their paths crossed repeatedly, with each encounter intensifying both their love and their hatred.
As the saying goes, "No pain, no gain," and this is certainly true for them, as they navigated friendships, family, ambition, dreams, and the loss of loved ones. No matter what, these two always seemed to be drawn back to each other.
Despite the saying that "age is just a number," Aanchal and Daksh, now in their mid-thirties, still struggled to act their age or relate to the world around them.
I do have some reservations about how the story concluded—it could have taken a different route and still been impactful. The ending felt a bit predictable, though it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment.
In conclusion, it was a solid read, one that I took my time with, and I’d definitely recommend it to those who enjoy reading contemporary romance.
