Paper Princess is the first book in The Royals series by Erin Watt. Normally, I don’t read adult romance, but I have a soft spot for enemies-to-lovers stories. After a binge of nonfiction and serious fiction, I needed a breather, and this book was just what the doctor ordered!
Sometimes, you just need a guilty-pleasure read with all the bad-boy vibes and the classic “I hate you, but I want you” energy. These books are quick to finish, and they whisk you back to being sixteen when all your wild fantasies felt so real.
Ella Harper and Reed Royal’s reckless, immature behaviour? Totally relatable, even if we don’t want to admit it. For me, I’m fully embracing it. Reading this made me understand why readers love calling books like this their guilty amusement.
Now, onto the story! Ella’s life flips upside down when her parents die, and she’s sent to live with Callum Royal, her legal guardian, and his five ridiculously good-looking sons: Gideon, Reed, Easton, and the twins, Sawyer and Sebastian.
She goes from having no money to living in a mansion, attending elite schools, and dodging wild parties. Adjusting isn’t easy, especially since Callum’s sons seem determined to make her life miserable.
Most of the book revolves around misunderstandings and grudges between Ella and the boys—especially Reed—and how they slowly untangle their mess. The tension between Ella and Reed is electric from the start. Erin Watt does a great job writing about their twisted love-hate relationship.
For now, it’s mostly desire and lust, but I can see it growing into a beautiful, though possibly tragic, love story. Both Ella and Reed are dealing with tough times, especially Reed, who is still mourning his mother’s death. The other brothers also have their own emotional struggles after losing their mom, each handling it in their own way.
The story has plenty of drama, and I couldn’t put it down. Even though I don’t usually read this genre, I ended up enjoying it! I might even finish the series someday... though with a TBR pile of 300+ books, who knows when?
Should you read this book? Well, that’s up to you. If you’re into steamy, dramatic romances, go for it! Don’t hold back, and definitely don’t let anyone judge your reading choices.
Warning: This book is intended for mature audiences only. It contains explicit content, adult themes, and intense romantic dynamics unsuitable for children or teenagers. Please do not share this book with underage readers.
