Amanja
Q.1 Please introduce yourself - Where are you from? How long have you been blogging? What’s the name of your blog? What made you decide to start a book blog?
A. Hello, my name is Amanja, and my book blog is Amanja Reads Too Much. I’m from Colorado and have been blogging for over 5 years now. I started this blog as a place to put my book reviews and challenge myself to create a website. It’s grown far beyond what I thought it would be at the beginning!
Q.2 What is your favorite genre and book?
A. I always want to say that my favorite genre is Horror since that’s my favorite movie genre, but I think it’s actually magical realism. Most of my top books of all time fall into that category.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles by Murakami and Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates by Tom Robbins compete for the favorite.
Q.3 What one piece of advice do you wish you’d had when you started book blogging?
A. Pace yourself. I was so eager to get as much out as possible that I published a bunch of silly, off-topic, or poorly written content. There really is no rush. It’s better to take the time to craft a good post.
Q.4 What piece of advice would you like to give to other bloggers?
A. Don’t stretch yourself too thin. I know some bloggers try to do it all themselves, from creating and maintaining a website, managing several social media accounts, producing a YouTube channel, and recording podcasts. The whole thing. Unless you have a whole production crew with you, you will get burnt out!
Q.5 How many books are actually on your bookshelf/shelves right now?
A. I am not sure about the total. I have three big shelves that are full at this point. I do know that my physical TBR is 14 deep at this point. (With countless more on my Kindle and library apps).
Q.6 If you could be a character from a book for just one day, who would you be and why?
A. Superman. I could feel what it’s like to fly, have super strength, basically be indestructible for a day. Even if I didn’t do anything productive with those powers, it would be a lot of fun!
Q.7 Is blogging your profession or just a hobby? Does your family support you? What’s their take on this?
A. Blogging is still a hobby for me at this point. I’d love for it to be my profession, but I have bills to pay, and despite what some clickbait says, most bloggers don’t actually make that much money.
My family does support me, at least my husband and his mom do. My mother-in-law is actually very sweet about it and reads all of my posts right when they go up.
Q.8 What do you think is the best strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
A. Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I did so much research on this topic that I turned it into my career. A lot goes into creating a successful blog or website, and it’s a lot of work.
If blogging is just a fun hobby, though, I wouldn’t worry too much about visitors. It’s nice to just have a couple of other bloggers in the community engaging with the content.
Q.9 What are the top 3 characteristics you look for in a good book?
A. Characters, pacing, and a good ending.
1. Characters should be developed and individual. They should grow with the book.
2. Pacing is important because it will decide if you actually want to keep picking up the book.
3. A good ending seems to be a lot to ask for anymore. Everything is a series or a universe, and the art of writing a conclusion seems to be dying. I love a solid finale that wraps up any plot points and allows me to say a proper goodbye to the characters.
Q.10 What are your favorite Instagram/Bookstagram/Booktuber accounts?
A. I’ve stepped away from my socials, but I do still keep up with a couple of bookstagram accounts: @pints_n_pulps @anniekayelovesbooks @coolcomics22.
