Unleash the Book Within

He is an Award-Winning Author, Book Coach, and Digital Entrepreneur, he is currently based in Australia.

Q.1 Tell us something about yourself, not many people know?

A. Many people are not aware that I was on television since the age of 19, I spent two years presenting a musical show at Zimbabwe’s main TV Station at the time. My passion for media was just being ignited at the time. This was the pre-digital explosion, and it’s crazy that I enjoy doing Facebook Lives, YouTube, etc. which are the modern-day channels. It’s fascinating to see how the area of media has been liberalized.

Q.2 When should we expect your next book? What will it be about?

A. I will not lose the cat out of the bag yet, but my next big book project will drop in, in 2021. I may have one small e-book coming before the end of 2020 on a new area that I'm currently exploring, but the main book project is coming next year. 2021 will be mainly to do with the marketplace as a hint.

Q.3 When did you decide to write Unleash the Book Within: Keys to Tap into the Multi-Billion Dollar Information Industry?

A. Good question, I decided to write that book, after receiving many requests from many people about writing a book. Many people have approached me over the years about writing a book, but what would surprise me is that years would go by and still no book. So, I decided to look at those common things that are stopping many people from writing their own books. Many of those things I drew from my experience and also some of the challenges that I had to overcome as well as challenges that many people are facing, things that I have discovered upon chatting with many people. I also included some of the key things going on relating to the digital economy, which is hidden in plain sight.

Q.4 Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?

A. I definitely want to take things to the next level. Like now, I have gone into Book Coaching because of people who need help. Whilst I have a vision, I am also allowing the brand to evolve naturally.

Q.5 How many books have you written? Which one is your favorite?

A. I have written over a dozen across amazon, apple books, etc. My favorite is Uncommon Destiny: Uncommon Partner, as it was my first, and also it got international recognition, which is the icing on the cake. It won an E Lit Award, which is run by the Jenkins Group. It’s also special to me, because even today, I still get requests from many publishers who are interested in the book. I wrote the book several years ago, even as I’m doing this interview, I just got an email from another American publisher, who is interested in that book. So Uncommon Destiny: Uncommon Partner holds a special place in my heart because it was the first and also because of international recognition.

Q.6 What do you want readers to take away from your book?

A. I want readers to know and understand that each of us has a unique calling and path, and our ‘'soul mate’' or ‘'help meet’', will either take us closer to the maximization of our purpose or further away. In an ideal scenario, they would help us get us to full maximization as much as we help them maximize theirs.

Q.7 What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing this book?

A. One of the most surprising things was that my writing process came naturally, and I was stunned with how my experiences, etc fitted the project well. It dawned on me, that because I had been passionate about relationships for over a decade before writing the book, I was well versed with the topic and could dig into reservoirs of knowledge and experience that I already had, but maybe would not have tapped into, had I not written the book. It allowed me to crystalize many things, which was amazing.

Q.8 What was the hardest part of writing this book?

A. In terms of process, it is simple and straight forward. My strategy at the time was to just focus on the task till it was done. So the writing itself wasn’t hard, but I had to learn things like Digital Marketing from scratch, the nuances of the digital age, etc that’s where the real hard work began.

Q.9 Do you believe in writer’s block? If yes, how do you deal with it?

A. Yes, I have had people talk about writer’s block, it’s not something that I struggle with. I think the two key things are to write something that you are passionate about, and also have a road map. I think once you have an outline and a map, then you can follow along with the map. You can also reward yourself after each milestone, it doesn’t have to be a big reward. You can have a big reward after the project. However, small rewards give you something to look forward to at each and every turn which will help with the momentum.

Q.10 What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

A. The best piece of advice someone has ever given me is, to just go for my dreams, and stay true to my core values.

Q.11 Who would you most like to thank for their involvement in your writing career?

A. I would like to thank my mum, I think she hugely affected my writing career. She was key in teaching me English at a young age, she was full on, in my primary school years and that definitely helped me with having command of English language, I also got to study English Literature at high school, which I initially didn’t like, go figure!

Q.12 When was your last memorable learning curve?

A. I think this was to do with copywriting, learning, and mastering the art and science of copywriting. This is very crucial for every marketer.

Q.13 Tell us about your writing process while you’re working?

A. I like to block out a time, I set aside whether an hour, 90 minutes and get the timer on. Work through that chunk of time, and take a small break at the end and then reset, etc. I think working in blocks keeps me energized, focused, and it's more efficient. I get so much done.

Q.14 Do you have any unique and quirky writing habits?

A. Not really, but I try and use my phone to screenshot things if I'm on the go, and I see something useful, a thought, or a phrase that inspires my next writing piece. It can be a headline etc, my phone is full of screenshots. LOL

Q.15 How does your family/friends feel about your book or writing venture in general?

A. I have very supportive core friends. I also have strangers that have fallen in love with my work, which is awesome. I think with my family, it was a bit of a surprise, but as things evolved they just embraced that this is who he has become. The same with friends, I think it just hit a point where they realized, it's ‘his thang’.

Q.16 Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with good and bad ones?

A. Yes, I do read the book reviews. They are very important.  With time, you start seeing a pattern, which is also good cause it gives the general gist of how people feel about your work. For example, I posted a review from Barnes and Noble the other day. This was another person who had said they wish they read Uncommon Destiny: Uncommon Partner before they got married. A few married people have said the same thing. It made me realize that many people are finding surprises in marriages and also we need to get that book in the hands of as many people as possible especially those who are preparing for marriage, as it addresses key fundamentals. So with good reviews, I cherish them and take them as feedback and I’m grateful for each and every one of them. Bad ones, I try and put aside my feelings and pay attention to what the reader is saying. Many times, there are gems in those negative reviews that I can use to develop, grow, and uplevel my writing, etc. Negative reviews help me learn and also improve.

Q.17 What would you share with folks who are skeptical of reading Non-Fiction?

A. There is power in information. In movies and real life, people die due to knowing pieces of information. This is how important information is some people are struggling with things that are written in a book somewhere, if only they could read it. So when it comes to non-fiction, people must know that information is powerful and also take time to understand why someone wrote that piece of non-fiction work, their story and perspective could be the key to your next level of breakthrough.

Q.18 Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?

A. I would like to meet Richard Branson, I was inspired by his works whilst I was still in Africa. I think he is a rebel and a misfit and I think it’s important for people to know that even if you are one of those things or more, there is a space for you in life. He has been such an inspiration not only to me, but he has made an impact on the global economy in such a big way.

Q.19 What books have most influenced your life?

A. I think those Ladybird books we read in our childhood years, opened our imaginations to a whole new world. Those books gave me the possibility and the ability to dream, which was so important. Of course, as an adult, I have gone on to be inspired by Rich Dad Poor Dad. I have just finished The Richest Man in Babylon which I think is a classic. I have also enjoyed Biographies. It has helped me relate to some key things and figures and their stories.

Q.20 Share the experience of your journey so far?

A. My experience has been fascinating and I like the way it has evolved. Whilst my university days were key in sharpening and strengthening my character, as well as laying a solid foundation in business, I think I have learned a lot from hands-on experiences. I think this is the beauty of execution. You doing something, looking at the results, tweaking the process, etc. I’m so grateful for the lives that I have touched and for each and every review and all my readers. One of the things that I'm so proud of, was that when I first got the call to step out and write my first book, I said yes. It’s been such a journey, and I don’t claim to have arrived, however, I'm grateful for where I am and excited for my ‘next’. My encouragement is for anyone who is still ‘sussing’ out their call, I encourage them to step out and let God guide the way! Thank you for providing this opportunity for me to share my journey.
